Borey Chankiri II
Creekside living, naturally connected.
Borey Chankiri II is located along a branch of the Prek Tnaot river, in the south of Phnom Penh. The site creates a unique opportunity to reconnect residential living with water, greenery and open space. Rather than treating the creek as a boundary, the project restores it as the central feature and focal point of the community, shaping a calm and welcoming living environment.
The arrival sequence begins at a tree-lined avenue leading from National Road 2, gradually distancing residents from traffic and noise. As the road approaches the water, the landscape opens and transitions into a creek-side public space with pedestrian sidewalks, seating areas and gathering spaces. This gradual transition from a bustling national road to tranquil riverside community is the first touchpoint in the Chankiri 2 experience.
The creek as the arrival experience
The Prek Tnaot creekside is envisioned as an active riverside park that will serve as a community focal point that connects all Chankiri developments present and future. Planned upgrades include:
- Sidewalks
- Seating benches
- Small and large decks
- Step seating down into the creek
- A pedestrian bridge to improve connectivity
Existing vegetation is retained, tidied, and supplemented with adaptive planting to create a lush and attractive edge between the built up neighborhood and the riverine landscape. The creek park will support space for leisure, social interaction, and connection with nature, and mould itself into a place for community engagement and exchange.
Connectivity and mobility
The creekside roads connect not only to National Road 2 and Airport Boulevard to the south, but also Chamkar Duong to the West, Ring Road 2 to the North, and Hun Sen Boulevard to the East.
Within the project, pedestrian pathways prioritize safety and walkability, encouraging movement through parks features in the borey that eventually connect residents also to the external creekside areas and streets.
Community parks and greenery
The masterplan centers on parks and green spaces that support interaction and community building, while providing residents with a host of activities from kids playgrounds, exercise areas, hang out areas for seniors, to meditation gardens and community gardens. The guiding promise is consistent with the broader Chankiri idea: every home is within a five-minute walk of a park feature.
Planting strategy emphasizes:
Native plants for climate suitability
Regional flora to encourage biodiversity
Amenities are designed to support different ages and routines, such as seniors’ corners with reflexology circles and exercise equipment, and adult fitness areas placed near playgrounds so that parents and children can engage in different actvities while being in the same space, supporting multi-generational communal activities.
A meaningful approach to living
Borey Chankiri 2 extends the Chankiri story through a creekside landscape that functions as both infrastructure and identity: a connected, walkable neighborhood where daily movement, shared green space, and home life are shaped by water and planting.
