Brown 6A

A single-storey roastery in Chroy Changvar, inspired by Khmer house culture and designed for everyday gathering.

The brief

Located along National Road 6 in Chroy Changvar, between the Mekong’s edge and a fast-growing city, BROWN Roastery 6A sits within a residential neighborhood where the pace of daily life still feels calm. The project takes cues from the spirit of Khmer houses and social culture, reworking familiar domestic ideas into a contemporary roastery and community space. The interior is kept open and bright, encouraging visitors to move through a sequence of spaces and subtle level changes guided by the rhythm of the structure and envelope.

Scope of Work

Architecture and interior design, spatial and furniture design, lighting concept, and material coordination inspired by traditional craftsmanship.

A lower front zone leads up via a side ramp to a communal setting anchored by oversized daybed-style benches. This becomes the social heart of the café, inviting people to sit longer, meet, and connect. Warm textures and hues build a sense of comfort, layered with soft furnishings, coffee-pot-shaped pendant lights, and hand-pressed references to traditional Khmer structural craft. Throughout, the boundary between inside and outside is softened to create a relaxed flow in both directions, supporting conversation, community, and quieter moments of reflection.
