Brown TIA Art View

A contemporary space shaped by identity and place

Located inside Cambodia’s Techo International Airport, Brown TIA D5 marks a milestone for both the brand and the country’s cultural presence in a new global gateway. The café sits in the Head House departure hall, surrounded by monumental architecture and expansive glass that opens onto the landscape beyond. Within this scale, the design creates a welcoming pause in the rhythm of travel, offering passengers a place to rest, reset and reconnect before continuing their journey.

The project balances function and expression. It operates as a retail environment, yet it also communicates a larger narrative about Cambodia today: grounded in heritage, confident in craft and forward-looking in design. Warm materials, gentle curves and layered textures soften the grandeur of the airport context, creating a space that feels familiar, calm and rooted in a sense of home.

At the centre of the space, a sculptural installation by artist Sopheap Pich anchors the interior both physically and symbolically. The artwork Birds Fly by Flapping Their Wings, crafted from bamboo, metal and enamel, introduces a sense of motion, lightness and transformation. Its form references the seedpod of the Thnong tree, a local species known for its resilience and for the way its seeds travel naturally across land and water.

This collaboration elevates the café beyond a dining space. It becomes a cultural encounter, where travellers engage with contemporary Cambodian art in an environment that is immersive yet quiet. The artwork and the architecture work in parallel to create an atmosphere defined by shadow, rhythm and gentle movement, echoing the themes of journey, flight and memory.

Brown TIA D5 offers passengers a moment of pause within a space typically defined by urgency and movement. Seating arrangements encourage a variety of experiences: short stops, family gatherings, quiet reflection or working while waiting. The design balances openness and shelter, allowing visitors to feel part of the airport environment while having a sense of grounding and comfort.

Through its architectural presence, cultural storytelling and careful detailing, the café becomes an ambassador of Cambodian identity, sharing contemporary craft and spatial sensibility with a global audience.

A place to arrive, a place to depart

Brown TIA D5 presents a thoughtful approach to public space inside an international airport. It introduces warmth, narrative and artistry to a highly functional environment, helping shape the first impressions and lasting memories of travellers passing through Cambodia.

It stands as a space that feels both local and universal, intimate and monumental, familiar and new.
