A calm L-shaped family villa arranged around a private courtyard.
The brief
Inspired by 1960s Khmer architecture, this villa is designed for a growing family and a lifestyle that can evolve over time. The arrival sequence slows the pace before the main living areas, using timber louvers to filter afternoon sun into gentle patterns, alongside natural stone textures and a reflecting pond that transitions visitors from the city into the home.
The L-shaped plan forms a protected courtyard that becomes the heart of the house, bringing daily life closer to trees, water, and shifting light. Cross-ventilation is built into the planning across both levels, with carefully placed openings that draw breezes through every room to improve comfort and reduce reliance on air-conditioning. Honest materials, including exposed concrete and stone, give the architecture a grounded, warm character that sits naturally within the landscape.
