A private riverfront retreat shaped by nature, calmness, and refined living.
The brief
Mekong Residence is planned as a calm riverside neighbourhood that takes its character from Phnom Penh’s waterfront. Instead of pushing for high density, the masterplan focuses on a more human pace, using townhouses, gardens, pedestrian alleys, and shared courtyards to create a place that feels lived-in and comfortable. Green space is treated as part of daily life, not leftover area, giving residents room to walk, sit, and meet neighbours in shaded outdoor settings.
Each residential cluster is arranged to protect privacy and encourage natural ventilation, while keeping views open toward the river and the wider landscape. Terraces, semi-open shaded areas, and direct garden connections support a lifestyle that spends more time outside, without giving up comfort. The architecture is kept simple and durable, with materials and forms chosen to weather well over time and strengthen a sense of permanence and belonging.
Scope of Work
Architecture, master planning and residential concept development for a multi-building waterfront community integrating low-rise housing, villas and shared amenities connected by landscape promenades, communal gardens and wellness spaces.
The masterplan takes its cues from the river and the site’s natural topography. A connected network of walkways links homes to shared courtyards and recreation spaces, making it easy to walk between places and encouraging a slower, more social rhythm day to day. Green buffers and shaded routes help keep streets calm and reduce reliance on cars, so the neighbourhood feels genuinely walkable.
Landscape is a core part of the design. Native planting, water features, and small microclimates bring shade and softness to the built edges, and make outdoor space usable through different seasons. The overall experience stays closely tied to the riverfront, offering a quiet retreat from the wider city while supporting a comfortable, everyday way of living.
